Vermont Gas Officials to Explain Their Plans for Bristol Pipeline

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The Bristol selectboard will host a special meeting on Monday evening to consider how, or whether, it should encourage distribution of natural gas in town.

The meeting will be held upstairs at Holley Hall beginning at 6 p.m. on Feb. 12.

The Bristol selectboard is considering a memorandum of understanding between the town and Vermont Gas Systems Inc. regarding VGS’s proposed construction of a gas distribution facility in Bristol.  The gas line would link up to the major natural gas distribution line that the company completed last year from Colchester to Middlebury.

VGS is adding a pipeline spur to Vergennes, and it had long been expected that it would consider a similar extension to Bristol.

Officials from Vermont Gas will be present at Monday’s meeting to provide details of the proposal and answer questions. Those VGS officials expected to be on hand Tom Murray, vice president of Customers and Communities; Tim Vachereau, vice president of Construction; and Karen Kotecki, right of way manager.

The public is welcome at the meeting.

At a selectboard meeting this past Dec. 4, people raised some concerns and questions to the anticipated extension of the Addison Natural Gas Project pipeline to Bristol. At that well-attended meeting some people also offered their support for a natural gas pipeline in Bristol.

A plan to post relevant documents to the town website has been delayed, but Town Administrator Valerie Capels said those documents are available upon request from her office in Holley Hall; call her at 543-2410.
