SEATTLE (Oil Monster):  Duke Energy Progress fired up the first turbine at its soon-to-be-completed, 560-megawatt, combined-cycle natural gas plant in Asheville this week for an important test run.

The “first fire” was completed early this week on one of its combustion turbines as the plant stayed on track to begin commercial production in mid- to late December.

The gas-fired plant will replace the 376-megawatt coal plant currently operating on the site.
