Masdar Unveils Third Wind Farm Project in the UK

The official ‘switch on’ ceremony of the Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm was attended by top company officials from all the three partner companies, government officials and other distinguished guests.

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Abudhabi, UAE-headquartered Masdar- a regional leader and a major international player in renewable energy and sustainable urban development has announced commissioning of its third wind farm project in the UK. With this, the combined capacity of Masdar plants in the UK now totals 1 gig-watt (GW).

The official ‘switch on’ ceremony of the Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm was attended by top company officials from all the three partner companies, government officials and other distinguished guests. Incidentally, Masdar owns 35% shares of Dudgeon. The other shareholders are Statoil (35 percent) and Statkraft (30 percent).

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State and Chairman of Masdar stated that the launch of the project emphasizes the value of international partnerships in successful deployment of large-scale projects. He appreciated the tremendous support extended by the British government. Moreover, the teamwork among the three partner companies was a key factor in the successful delivery of this flagship project. Al Jaber pointed out that the inauguration of the project marks the emergence of Masdar as a global renewable energy leader. Masdar will continue to work with its partners to build on its presence in the UK, he added.

Since 2006, the company has invested around $8.5 billion in various renewable energy projects around the world. Last month, Masdar in association with its partners had unveiled Hywind Scotland-the world’s first floating wind farm. The 30MW wind turbine farm on floating structures at Buchan Deep spreads over 4 square kilometers and generates electricity to power nearly 20,000 households in the mainland.
