Romania’s Transgaz Starts Construction of BRUA Pipeline

The first phase of the BRUA project envisages the construction of a 479-kilometre long pipeline, the economy ministry said in a statement.

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Romanian gas transmission company Transgaz [BSE:TGN] has launched the construction of the natural gas pipeline which will connect Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Austria (BRUA), Romania's economy ministry said on Monday.

The first phase of the BRUA project envisages the construction of a 479-kilometre long pipeline, the economy ministry said in a statement.

The total estimated cost of the project's first phase, which also includes the construction of compressor stations, is 478.6 million euro ($561.0 million), the ministry added.

The pipeline route in Romania follows the general direction from south-east to west, crossing the counties of Giurgiu, Teleorman, Dambovita, Arges, Olt, Valcea, Gorj, Hunedoara, Caras-Severin and Timis, Transgas said previously.

The construction of a new European gas transmission corridor that will connect Bulgaria with Austria through Romania and Hungary will increase the security of gas supply in Europe and will reduce energy dependence at the European and regional level, thus allowing for diversification of gas supply routes, Transgaz said at the time.

In April, Transgaz started works on three compressor stations for the BRUA pipeline - in Podisor, Bibesti and Jupa.

In March, Transgaz signed a 288.7 million lei contract for the construction of the three compressor stations with a consortium led by Inspet and comprising Petroconst, Moldocor, Habau PPS Pipeline Systems, IRIGC IMPEX, Sutech, TIAB and Roconsult Tech as members.
