Potholes will be filled after the old gas lines are capped and new pipes are placed.
SEATTLE (Oil Monster): An Xcel Energy contractor will be repairing gas lines at E. County Line Road and Erie Parkway throughout the week, the town announced Monday.
The work, a combination of 'flaring' and pothole filling, is scheduled to begin today and last until the end of the week.
'The flaring is necessary in order to 'pickle' the gas line, a process during which the odorant Xcel adds to the gas supply is brought up to a level that allows Xcel to smell the gas in the event of a leak,' a town email blast reads.
Potholes will be filled after the old gas lines are capped and new pipes are placed. According to the release, new asphalt won't be laid down until there's better weather.
The flaring is expected to take between 20 and 30 minutes, and the flame up to 20 feet high. It will be on the west side of E. County Line Road and roughly 1,500 feet north of Erie Parkway.
Contractors already have alerted local authorities of the work.
