Headquartered in  Edmonton with 38 offices throughout its service area, ATCO Electric serves  nearly 227,000 customers in energy-rich northern and east-central Alberta. 

With more than 85 years’ experience and approximately 2,200 employees  serving 245 communities, the company builds, operates and maintains a safe,  reliable system of approximately 11,000 kilometres of transmission lines and  69,000 km of distribution lines. In addition, ATCO Electric operates  approximately 4,000 km of distribution power lines on behalf of Rural  Electrification Associations in its service territory.

Transmission Division

ATCO Electric’s Transmission Division is accountable for growth, planning, engineering, construction, operations and maintenance of transmission facilities. By investing in transmission infrastructure development, the Transmission Division helping to meet the growing need for electricity and playing a key role in industrial development. The company owns and operates about 11,000 kilometres of transmission lines.

Distribution Division

ATCO Electric’s Distribution Division is accountable for growth, planning, engineering, construction, operations and maintenance of distribution facilities. ATCO Electric’s network of about 69,000 kilometres of distribution power lines delivers safe, reliable electricity to homes, farms and businesses and Aboriginal communities across its service area. In addition, the company operates approximately 4,000 kilometres of distribution power lines on behalf of Rural Electrification Associations.

Serving Canada’s North

Through its subsidiary companies—ATCO Electric Yukon, Northland Utilities (NWT) Limited and Northland Utilities (Yellowknife) Limited, the company serves customers in Canada’s North.
