CTL Fuels will use the abundant US coal reserves in an environmentally friendly manner to profitably supply high quality synthetic transportation fuels at reasonable and stable pricesGlobal demand for transportation fuels is steadily increasing, while sources of crude oil and refining capacity remain stagnant. The resulting environment is one where prices will only increase.
The US economy runs on gasoline, diesel and jet fuel; as long as the only source of these fuels is petroleum, the economy is subject to oil & fuel price shocks.CTL Fuels will change that dynamic by providing an alternative to petroleum fuels; synthetic fuels made by using the existing and proven coal-to-liquid (CTL) process.
The CTL Process
In the 19th Century, coal derived syngas was used to light street lamps. In the 1920s, Franz Fischer and Hans Tropsch developed the Fischer-Tropsch (F-T) process to convert syngas into liquid fuels.CTL creates value; the process of converting coal into liquid fuels is in use today, but there are no commercial CTL facilities operating in the United States. The issue in the US is not the functionality of the technology but the availability of permits.
