NWP Energy Company

1676 Waverly Avenue , Kilmarnock, Virginia, United States | Renewable Energy

NWP was originally a Commissioned Agent for Esso in the early 1940’s. Esso delivered fuel by barge to Kilmarnock, where it was stored at the same location as where the current main office is located. Bobtail trucks would then deliver fuel to residential and commercial customers and to local general stores that were scattered throughout the Northern Neck.  In 1965, George Noblett purchased the business from Esso, and the company was incorporated as George Noblett Oil Company, Inc. During this time, Mr. Noblett purchased a bulk plant in Kinsale, Virginia, which expanded the company’s marketing territory into Richmond and Westmoreland counties. He also purchased a couple of retail gasoline stations, which were branded Esso and then Exxon. George Noblett ran the business until 1984, at which time he sold the company to Norman L. Faulkner.  Mr. Faulkner retained the name of the company as George Noblett Oil Company, Inc., and expanded the business by purchasing Rom Sanders’ general store in White Stone, Virginia. The store was converted into a convenience store/deli and named the Buoy Food Store. A year later, Norman F. Faulkner began managing the retail segment of George Noblett Oil Company, Inc., and through new construction and acquisition expanded that aspect of the business to eleven stores and six Subway restaurants.  In 1995, Doug Faulkner recognized the future opportunity of propane in the Northern Neck area and initiated a venture into that service. We now serve thousands of customers with propane and are the only locally owned and operated distributor that provides petroleum and propane service in our marketing area. In 2011, we abbreviated our tradename to NWP Oil and Propane to simplify name recognition.
