B&B Propane

515 Main Street , Houghton , Iowa, United States | Renewable Energy

In August 1966, B&H Gas Corporation was established by Leroy Bentler with Adrian Hunold. Leroy oversaw the daily operations. Gene Brune was hired as manager, and worked with the company’s two drivers, John Bentler and Wayne Schwartz. Together they installed and piped the propane company’s first 18,000 gallon propane storage tank in Houghton, Iowa. Additional acquisitions in the Spring of 1971 and 1972 saw B&H grow to 2 more locations for storage tanks in Hillsboro and Salem Iowa. In 1975 when B&H acquired the assets of Augspurger Gas in Pulaski Iowa, a 30,000 gallon storage tank at that location enabled B&H Gas Corporation to expand their customer base.  After about 10 years, Leroy Bentler bought out Adrian’s interest in the corporation. Gene Brune continued to work alongside Leroy Bentler and was instrumental in growing the company with the outstanding customer service he provided to each and every customer. The corporation was renamed B&B Propane. The company was acquired by Leroy Bentler’s son, Larry, CEO of Jet Gas Corporation in 2005. “Safety and Service”, the B&B Propane motto, describes the core values of the company that continue today. B&B Propane retains it original office location in Houghton Iowa with additional Iowa offices in Denmark, Donnellson, Eldon, Mount Pleasant and Pulaski.

Propane storage bullets are located at the office locations, as well as in the surrounding Southeast Iowa, Lomax and Northern Missouri areas, for a total of 15 storage locations. After 2 more Iowa acquisitions in 2008, Eldon Progas of Eldon Iowa and Heartland of Hedrick Iowa, the company could provide propane services to 16 counties in Southeast Iowa and Northern Missouri. The company’s most recent expansion came in 2013 with yet another Iowa acquisition as well as a new acquisition in Illinois. The addition of these two areas enables B&B Propane to now provide propane service to a total of 27 counties in Southeast Iowa, Northeast Missouri and Western Illinois.  B&B Propane maintains a fleet of propane trucks to meet the needs of residential, agricultural and commercial customers. The propane demands of large agricultural and commercial customers can be met with the company’s transport services. Extensive driving and safety training is provided to each of our drivers. Coupled with a knowledgeable and friendly office staff, a level of customer service is provided to our customers that they have come to expect and deserve and they remain key in the continued growth and success of the company.
