When my grandparents founded Woods Heating in 1923, they couldnt possibly imagine many of the developments that would take place in the oil business over the years. Still, some things havent changed since my grandparents day.  At Woods Heating, quality service has never gone out of style. Started in 1923 and celebrating over 90 years in business, Woods Heating Service, your local family-operated oil company, can look back on a fascinating history – one marked by dedication, hard work and the perseverance - to get through hard times. Through it all, our focus has been taking good care of our customers, no matter how challenging the times. We now serve all of Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts for their heating and cooling needs, backed by none other than Star Gas Partners, L.P.  It all started back in 1923, when Etta Steere Wood and her husband, Seth Wood, opened a gas station on the corner of Warren and Pawtucket Avenues in East Providence. Etta had graduated from Bryant College in 1915, back in the days when the few women who pursued higher education were considered eccentric. It was Etta who convinced her husband that they should operate their own business. Etta and Seth worked long hours to keep the business afloat, particularly during the Great Depression. Pitching in to help were the couples children, Edna and Seth.  Seth continued in the family business after serving in the United States Air Force during World War II. By then, the business had begun delivering coal and heating oil. He started the commitment of 24-hour service, because he was always on call in case of customer needed help with a heating problem. Other additions came on the 'home front' for Seth and his wife, Frances; seven children were born and raised in those postwar baby boom years.  Ettas granddaughter Valerie and her husband, Carl Benker, took over the business in 1978. Valeries sister Wendy also joined the business around this time. The third generation expanded the companys services to include air conditioning. Over the years the business grew and in 1983 moved to larger headquarters on Warren Avenue. In 2005, they moved again so they would have the resources to accommodate the needs of our many customers.  Today, Wendy Wood holds the reigns of leadership. She made a major contribution to the business in the late 1970s by bringing it into the computer age. Although Wendy recognized the advantages of storing and organizing data on a computer, Grandma Etta (who was in her 80s by then) was concerned about energy conservation. Convinced that the computer was using too much electricity, Etta would unplug it, not understanding the importance of using the 'save' key first. It would take days to figure out how to recover the data.  We want to thank our customers for their loyalty and trust over the years. Its an honor for our family to take care of yours. We plan to keep on doing it for many more years. Grandma Etta wouldnt have it any other way.

• Our technicians are licensed certified professionals who respond quickly and effectively. We are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• Our technicians participate in extensive factory training on a continuing basis.
• Our drivers are skilled in delivering oil to you and they treat your property as if it were their own.
• We offer the convenience of automatic delivery, payment plans and service agreements that help you avoid sudden, large bills.
• We offer selection and equipment installation advice. We ask you the questions that are necessary to help select the best system to meet your needs and maximize your comfort level.
• We have extended office hours to meet your needs. We are open from 7 AM to 6 PM Monday through Friday and 8 AM to 4:30 PM on Saturdays during the heating season. Also, during the winter, our staff will field no-heat emergency calls up to 9 PM during the week, and from 8 AM to 4 PM on Sunday. For your convenience, we are open Saturdays until noon during the non-heating season.
• When we send our employees home, we turn the phones over to an answering service (much like your doctor does). If you need help, the answering service will alert our on-call service technician and he will call you.
• Our service and installation department are employed by us. We do not use sub-contractors except for sheet metal work and asbestos removal. When we do utilize sub-contractors, they are leaders in the respectful fields and selected for their commitment to quality. A master electrician is employed for all air conditioning wiring installations as well as disconnection of existing electric baseboard.
• We pull permits as required by law when we install new heating and air conditioning equipment. This means that a third party inspects the installation to make sure it meets current code and safety requirements, not us.
• Our staff constantly strives to bring you the best in service. When we install new equipment for you, that is only the beginning of our relationship. We will be there to meet your needs for many years to come. Our relationship with you is ongoing.
• Our oil trucks meters are checked regularly by the State so you know your deliveries are accurate.
  Only the best new equipment is installed. We do not utilize used parts.
  Complete and professional proposals including detailed specifications of the proposed equipment and installation. We provide copies of applicable equipment warranties.
  We provide complete insurance coverage on all installations, workers compensation, as well as, product and liability insurance.
  A comprehensive oil burner service contract providing twenty-four (24) hour emergency service and an annual tune-up is available. The basic contract covers most of the parts and components of the oil burner. Extended coverage is available to cover circulators or zone valves and some warm air furnace components as well as oil tank replacement.
  We are dedicated to keeping your home and family protected throughout the seasons, which is why we offer an extra level of protection through services like home monitoring.

Propane Delivery

Woods Heating Service is pleased to offer propane heating and delivery service for your home. Propane is a pure, clean, safe alternative energy fuel with no odors or residues with proper equipment operation. Once delivered, its immune from price or supply fluctuations. And propane works where other energy sources dont. Indoors, we can set up and service installations to power your furnace, water heater, clothes dryer and more. You can also use propane for your cooktop or oven. Or make it the warm welcome in your propane fireplace.  Outside, keep your pool, hot tub or outdoor room warm. Fuel patio heaters, mosquito eliminators, and fireplace pits and hearths. And attached to a generator, propane could power your home during an outage when other energy sources cant get through.
