Green Power EMC

2100 E. Exchange Place , Tucker, Georgia, United States | Renewable Energy

Green Power EMC is a not-for-profit cooperative founded in 2001 to support EMCs in their search for Georgia’s renewable resources. The primary efforts of Green Power EMC have been to find, screen, analyze and negotiate power purchase agreements with Georgia-based renewable resource providers. In addition to sourcing renewable energy, Green Power EMC provides education programs that help Member consumers learn both the challenges and opportunities of utilizing renewable energy.  Green Power EMC obtains green power from renewable facilities all over the state, including solar power, landfill gas generation, low-impact hydroelectric and biomass from wood waste. Its renewable energy projects total 283 megawatts (MW) of capacity.

Mission

The mission of Green Power EMC, a nonprofit corporation, is to facilitate procurement and marketing of electricity from cleaner, greener Georgia sources, add it to the member cooperative’s power mix, and build member-owned loyalty by generating awareness about our environmental product offerings and services.

Energy Installations

Green Power EMC procures renewable energy from solar, low-impact hydroelectric, landfill gas, and wood waste biomass facilities located around Georgia. For more detailed information, click on the link for each resource.

Solar Energy

Solar power can be harnessed for uses such as heating water and generating electric energy.  The most common application of solar power is the production of electric energy through the use of photovoltaic panels that convert the sun’s rays directly into electricity. Here are some of the solar installations currently under construction or utilized by Green Power EMC.

Landfill Gas Energy

Landfill gas generators use the methane that is produced by the decomposition of organic materials in existing landfills to produce clean, renewable electricity.  The process also removes harmful methane from the environment.  Green Power EMC currently uses gas produced at three landfill gas generators around the state.  Click on the individual headings below for a look at each of these facilities.
