Heritage Sustainable Energy, LLC was formed in 2004 as a renewable energy provider.  To date, our team has successfully developed a series of wind and solar projects in Michigan, installing enough capacity to power the equivalent of 57,000 average Michigan homes every year!  Heritage operates a total of 139.2 megawatts (MW) of installed renewable energy capacity, with hundreds of MW in our project pipeline, continuing with our commitment to help reduce Michigan’s dependence on conventional energy sources. We have also contributed planning and other resources to other energy providers, resulting in the installation hundreds of MW of additional wind energy generation.

Wind Energy in Michigan Michigan

Renewable Portfolio Standard required utility companies to source 10% of their electricity from renewable generation sources by the year 2015. In addition to contributing to compliance with this standard, wind energy diversifies their portfolios and gives utility consumers the option to purchase clean, renewable energy. Currently, there are over 1,700 MW of installed wind energy capacity in Michigan and an additional capacity is under construction.  Wind energy makes significant contributions to the economy in our state such as:

  • Making lease and royalty payments to participating landowners.
  • Contributing tax payments to local communities, community services and school districts.
  • Generating of 1,000 to 2,000 direct and indirect jobs.
  • Supporting 25 facilities in the State that manufacture products for the wind industry.
