Matlock Gas

In 1929, JD and Claire Matlock opened Matlock Electric in Globe, Arizona. They sold 25 volt electric appliances from a storefront on Broadstreet. In 1937, they entered the gas business and expanded their line of appliances to include gas. Their line of gas appliances included refrigerators, cook stoves and water heaters. They were the first propane company in Gila County and provided delivery services for the county from the Globe office.  The business was eventually taken over by JD and Claire’s daughter and son and law, who expanded the company’s service area to include Payson and Safford.  The Safford office opened in 1984 in the former Cal Gas / Brannon plant.  Matlock Gas is now on it’s third generation of family ownership.  Today, Matlock Gas supplies gas services and delivery to residences across four counties: Gila, Graham Greenlee and Coconino.

We estimate your propane usage with an advanced computer system and automatically schedule a delivery when our system indicates you need a refill.  With this option you don’t need to check your gauge and call for delivery, which leaves time for your to focus on more important matters. Will Call

With Matlock’s Will Call program, you take responsibility for your propane service. You monitor your tank and propane usage and decide when it’s time to schedule a refill. This means that you need to check your usage level on a regular basis. When it’s time for a refill, you can call us and schedule a delivery.  Be sure to call when your propane tank reaches 30 percent capacity, or at least five business days before you want you tank filled.  Emergency propane deliveries can be made after hours, on weekends, or holidays if you need it. Please be aware that unscheduled deliveries are subject to an additional charge.  If your propane tank is empty or service is interrupted, Matlock is required to perform a safety test before putting your propane system back into service. This may result in an additional charge.

Storing small cylinders

• Never store or place a propane cylinder indoors or in an enclosed area such as a basement, garage, shed, or tent.
• Never store or place a propane cylinder in an area of excessive heat (120 degrees or higher) or near a stove, fireplace, or other heat source. The heat builds up pressure inside the cylinder, which may cause the pressure relief valve to release propane. Flash fires or explosions can result from exposing cylinders to heat.
• Never store or place a spare cylinder under or near a barbecue grill.
• Do Not smoke or have any ignition sources such as flames or spark-producing electrical tools in the area while handling or transporting cylinders.
