Oyster River Petroleum was founded by Ed Granfield on his parent’s kitchen table in January of 1987. They set aside a small area of the house for a table and chair, a calculator, a rotary phone, a rolodex file, and a goal. That goal was to offer full service along with low cost home heating oil in the New Haven, CT area . Ed then purchased his first oil truck, a used 1976 Peterbuilt with a small 2200 gallon steel tank and by word of mouth began delivering fuel oil to friends and neighbors. Later that spring, he purchased an answering machine, a pager, and hired their first service technician, and a company was born. Today, 30 years later Oyster River Energy is serving over 1500 homeowners in the Greater New Haven area. The company utilizes a computerized degree day system to provide pinpoint automatic delivery service, along with discount and affordable home heating oil pricing, comprehensive service plans with 24 hour emergency response, on-line payment service, low cost monthly budget payment plans, and the sales, service and installation of high efficiency residential heating and cooling systems. A lot has changed over the years but some things never change.
