Gibson County Utility District

The Gibson County Utility District distributes natural gas to customers in Gibson County and Obion County and Dyer County, Tennessee including the towns of Trenton, Dyer, Kenton, Milan, Rutherford, Bradford, Gibson, Medina, Mason Hall and Yorkville. Natural gas is supplied by Texas Gas to two district gate stations. The ANR Pipeline Company supplies natural gas to one district gate station. Natural gas is distributed throughout the utility district from these stations. The high-pressure distribution piping between towns is composed entirely of coated and wrapped steel pipe. It is cathodically protected from corrosion by an impressed current system. The low-pressure distribution system is composed of coated and wrapped steel mains, coated and wrapped steel service lines and polyethylene (plastic mains and services and plastic service inserts). The steel lines are cathodically protected from corrosion by sacrificial magnesium anodes and with the impressed current system utilizing rectifiers.  Our mission is to provide high quality, safe energy, and related services in Gibson County while meeting the expectations and needs of customers and the community at large.  “In accordance with Federal law and U.S. Department of Agriculture policy, this institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, religion, sex, and familial status. Natural gas, in itself, might be considered a very uninteresting gas – it is colorless, shapeless, and odorless in its pure form. Quite uninteresting – except that natural gas is combustible, and when burned it gives off a great deal of energy. Unlike other fossil fuels, however, natural gas is clean burning and emits lower levels of potentially harmful byproducts into the air. We require energy constantly, to heat our homes, cook our food, and generate our electricity. It is this need for energy that has elevated natural gas to such a level of importance in our society, and in our lives.

EFVs will not be installed on your service lines if:

• The service line does not operate at a pressure of 10 psig or greater throughout the year;
• The EFV could interfere with proper operation or cause loss of service;
• An EFV could interfere with necessary operation or maintenance activities; or
• The capacity of the meter on the service line exceeds 1million BTU per hour

Compressed Natural Gas

CNG is a readily available alternative to gasoline that’s made by compressing natural gas to less than 1% of its volume at standard atmospheric pressure. Consisting mostly of methane, CNG is odorless, colorless and tasteless. It’s drawn from domestically drilled natural gas wells or in conjunction with crude oil production.
