With our ongoing projects, New Fortress Energy has an established logistics chain that enables us to deliver natural gas quickly and efficiently to customers of all sizes around the world.  Our story began with a transformation of our own. Seeking to convert a freight rail to run on cleaner, more efficient fuel, our founder created New Fortress Energy and built Florida’s first LNG production facility. While supplying LNG as an alternative fuel source to transportation projects and local industries, we saw the potential to deliver LNG to customers around the world seeking reliable, affordable energy. Soon after, New Fortress Energy invested significant funds in Jamaica to deliver the country’s first LNG. Since then, we have embarked on an international expansion, driven by our vision of a world in which electricity is no longer a luxury good.

Our Founder

Wes Edens is co-founder and co-CEO of Fortress Investment Group, a global investment management firm. Under his leadership, Fortress has developed and owned transportation and infrastructure projects across the world and built industry-leading businesses in real estate, health care, financial services, media and entertainment.  Mr. Edens founded New Fortress Energy (NASDAQ: NFE) in 2014 to meet the growing demand for clean, affordable and reliable energy around the world. As CEO, he has led the effort to build the rapidly growing, fully integrated energy infrastructure business that operates liquefied natural gas (LNG) production facilities, logistics and terminals across North America and the Caribbean.  He has also been the catalyst for the development of Brightline (recently rebranded Virgin Trains USA), the first privately owned, operated and maintained passenger rail system in the United States that connects Florida cities from Miami to Orlando and is developing a second corridor between Southern California and Las Vegas.  Amongst other philanthropic contributions, he and his family established The Edens Family Fund for Climate Change Research at Princeton University, served as inaugural co-chair of the Brown School of Public Health Advisory Council, and endowed a professorship at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn., the Edens Professorship in Global Health, along with a research fund to focus on solving international infectious disease and environmental health hazards.  A lifelong athlete and competitor, Mr. Edens grew up on a rural Montana ranch participating in outdoor sports including ski racing, mountain climbing, running, and jumping horses. He has scaled challenging mountains around the world including the Matterhorn, the Grand Teton, and Mount Kilimanjaro.  Prior to founding Fortress in 1998, Mr. Edens was a partner and managing director of BlackRock Financial Management Inc., where he headed BlackRock Asset Investors, a private equity fund. In addition, Mr. Edens was formerly a partner and managing director of Lehman Brothers.  Mr. Edens is also the co-owner of the Milwaukee Bucks and Aston Villa Football Club. He received a B.S. in Finance from Oregon State University.
