Emera Maine

PO Box 932, Bangor, Maine, United States | Electric Power

Emera Maine is a regulated electric transmission and distribution utility. The company is wholly owned by Emera Inc., a full-service energy company based in Nova Scotia.  Emera Maine came to existence on January 1, 2014 when Bangor Hydro Electric Company and Maine Public Service merged to become one company.  Our primary business is the efficient, safe and reliable delivery of electricity to customers in northern and eastern Maine. We install, operate and maintain transmission and distribution infrastructure such as poles and wires, substations, and meters. We alsoTerritory Map offer programs and tools to help our customers use energy more efficiently.  Our transmission services are regulated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and distribution services are regulated by the Maine Public Utilities Commission (MPUC).  We do not generate or sell the electricity that we deliver to retail customers. Since Maine restructured its electric industry in the late 1990s, we have not owned electric generation facilities. Consumers have their choice of retail electricity suppliers or a MPUC-administered standard offer.

Mission

To make electricity more acceptable, more available, and more affordable to more people in more situations than the day before, resulting in greater value for the shareholder.

Vision of Success

To be a progressive energy leader in our region in advancing solutions that improve the lives of our customers and community. Electricity will be the preferred source of energy.

We strive to...

Build trust with customers and the regulators by focusing on the customer and supporting regulatory directive through good communication, alignment of interests, exhibited competence and outstanding performance.

Guiding Principles

  • We have an unyielding commitment to safety. Safety guides our behavior, decisions, and actions. We believe every employee has a responsibility to be a leader in safety at work, home and in the community.
  • Our reputation should leave no room for doubt when we say something can be done or will be done. We will not compromise safety in achieving quality results. We recognize the difference between best effort with poor results as opposed to poor results from lack of effort or sloppiness.
  • We take responsibility for the commitments we make to our customers, our shareholders, and our co-workers; and for our actions in fulfilling these commitments.  We take seriously our responsibility to be good stewards of the environment and use our resources wisely.
  • We believe honest, respectful relationships and trust are essential for long-term business success. We deal respectfully and with integrity in all our business relations.  We maintain our credibility by always making sure our actions match our words. We do the right thing even when no one is looking.
  • We believe in continuously improving what we do and how we do it. We challenge conventional thinking and encourage creativity and innovation to find mutually beneficial solutions. We embrace change for the opportunities it offers.

Outages and Restoration

During a power outage, we understand that you want your power back as soon as possible and that you want to know how long it will take to restore service.  We provide an estimated restoration time to let you know approximately how long your power will be out. Our estimated restoration times are generally based on the worst case scenarios in similar situations. Often we are able to restore power sooner than we predict, but sometimes it can take a bit longer.

WHAT IS NET ENERGY BILLING?

Net Energy Billing is a billing and metering practice for customers whose energy provider generates reusable fuels or technologies (such as solar, geothermal, and hydroelectric). Net Energy Billing customers are billed on the basis of net energy over a billing period, taking into account accumulated unused kilowatt-hour credits from the previous billing period.
