Bluewater Gas Storage

Located in St. Clair County, Michigan, Bluewater provides seasonal storage needs for 1.4 million natural gas customers of We Energies and Wisconsin Public Service.  Bluewater’s 30-mile, 20-inch diameter pipeline header system connects with three interstate and three intrastate natural gas utility pipelines that provide access to the major market hubs of Joliet, Illinois, and Dawn, Ontario.  Bluewater has total working gas storage capacity of approximately 23 billion cubic feet in two depleted reservoirs.

Regulatory information

  Bluewater Gas Storage LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of WEC Energy Group and was granted authorization in October 2006 by the FERC to own, lease and operate its Columbus III and Kimball 27 gas storage facilities in St Clair and McCombs County, Michigan, under § 7(c) of the Natural Gas Act, including market-based rate treatment and waiver of shipper must have title requirement.  Bluewater’s most current gas tariffs are available on informational posting sites.
