Energy Options

• Natural gas is an alternative fuel that burns clean and is already widely available to people in many countries through utilities that provide natural gas to homes and businesses.  Positive: Cars and trucks with specially designed engines produce fewer harmful emissions than gasoline or diesel.
• Propane is the most widely used clean fuel globally, with more than 25 million vehicles operating worldwide. It makes a significant contribution to improved environmental outcomes in transportation, in both greenhouse abatement and reduced pollution levels.
• Electric vehicles are becoming an excellent option for transit buses, in-city medium-duty delivery vehicles, and short-haul drayage trucking. Electric vehicles have a much lower source-to-wheels emissions profile than diesel or gasoline vehicles, and zero tailpipe emissions.
• Hydrogen can be mixed with natural gas to create an alternative fuel for vehicles that use certain types of internal combustion engines. Hydrogen is also used in fuel-cell vehicles that run on an electricity produced by the petrochemical reaction that occurs when hydrogen and oxygen are combined in the fuel 'stack'.
