The Blindman Valley Propane Co-operative Ltd. was originally incorporated in 1961. A nine member Board signed on 169 members in the first year of operation. Their foresight and determination laid the foundation that has allowed the Association to grow to it’s current membership of over 1700 throughout the West Country.  Blindman Valley Propane works hard for you every day and has been west central Alberta’s propane supplier for over 55 years. Propane is a clean, environmentally beneficial fuel for homes, farms, businesses and vehicles. Propane’s energy efficiency and low emissions rate give it exceptional value.

Residential Services

With regular schedules we can keep your tank / cylinder full and your house warm year round.  Will-call service is also available for those that would prefer to have more control over the level of their propane, we ask that fills are requested when a tank is between 20-30% and delivery will happen on average 5-10 days after the request is received.  Residential propane customers use propane for many applications. The majority of propane sold for residential use is for heating but propane is a great alternative energy source to lower your electrical utility bill. Propane appliances such as cook tops, fireplaces, cloth dryers, and water heaters have become increasingly popular. Blindman Valley Propane Co-op Ltd. is more than happy to assist you in choosing the right propane service whatever your propane needs are, big or small.  Most homes require a 500 gallon tank in order to stay at a comfortable level of propane between fills, but with tanks ranging from 50 gallon to 2000 gallon, we are able to provide storage for any type of application.

Cylinders vs. Tanks

Many people are familiar with the 20 LB cylinders that are used on most BBQ’s, what they may not be aware of is the vast array of storage solutions that are available for propane. That 20 LB cylinder on your BBQ is what is known as a DOT cylinder, basically that means that it was made for transportation in accordance to Department of Transportation specifications. These cylinders are most commonly referred to in their storage capacity expressed in pounds of water; they range from 5 LB to 420 LB. These DOT cylinders must be recertified every 10 years.  At 200 LB there is a cross over into the second type of propane storage container, ASME, which are made for permanent installation according to the boiler and pressure vessel standards of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). These tanks need to be refit every 25 years and are normally referred to by their capacity in gallons of water; they can range from 420 LB (100 gallon) to over 2000 gallon.
