Susquehanna Nuclear Power Plant

769 Salem Boulevard , Berwick, Pennsylvania, United States | Nuclear

Susquehanna employees are some of the most highly skilled professionals in the industry and have a wide range of backgrounds that help them perform their jobs safely and efficiently. Our engineers, operators, electricians, chemists, environmentalists and support professionals have safety as their primary focus for every task they perform.  Our employees continue to hone their skills through accredited training programs offered onsite and at industry workshops and conferences. Many employees also are part of the plant’s extensive emergency plan, either staffing positions for Susquehanna or volunteering at local emergency operation centers throughout the 10-mile radius surrounding the nuclear power plant.  Most of our employees live in nearby communities and donate thousands of dollars to nonprofit organizations, including the United Way, as well as many other worthwhile community projects. They also volunteer countless hours to serve their neighbors in many ways: helping at soup kitchens, renovating houses, preparing taxes and leading scouts.  Regardless of where you meet our employees, you will find them dedicated, conscientious and caring.

History

HomeWho we areHistory In December 1951, an experimental reactor produced the first electric power from the atom, lighting four light bulbs. Nuclear energy has been used since 1953 to power U.S. Navy vessels, and since 1955 to provide electricity for home use.  Today, 30 countries worldwide operate more than 430 nuclear plants for electricity generation, providing about 16 percent of the world’s energy.  The United States has about 100 commercial nuclear power plants. Nuclear power supplies about 20 percent of the nation’s electricity each year, and is the major source of electricity that can be generated around-the-clock without carbon dioxide emissions.
