The S.W. Jack Cogeneration Plant is a combined cycle power plant that converts fossil fuels into usable electric and thermal energies for use at the Indiana Campus. Cogeneration is a name given to the process of producing two or more forms of energy from one source of fuel. The S. W. Jack Cogeneration Plant produces electric, steam, and hot water from the fuel sources of natural gas and a small amount of diesel fuel. The cogeneration process enables users to reach much higher energy efficiencies than traditional power producing plants. The cogeneration process is shown in graphical form on the Cogeneration Schematic. The Energy Management Office is responsible for the overall management of energy-related activities.
