Officials emphasized the Mediterranean’s growing importance, citing Egypt’s established infrastructure, technical expertise, and attractive investment environment as key drivers for international partnerships. The planned agreement is expected to accelerate exploration activities and unlock new hydrocarbon reserves.

TotalEnergies reaffirmed its commitment to expanding operations in Egypt, identifying the country as a strategic market with strong long-term potential. The Herodotus Basin, spanning over 90,000 square kilometers, offers significant opportunities for deepwater gas discoveries.

The move follows increased exploration momentum in the region, including recent drilling initiatives by Shell, signaling rising investor interest in Mediterranean energy resources.
