The major export destinations were Bulgaria, Greece and Switzerland.

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The natural gas output by Turkiye in 2022 slipped from record levels during the year before.

According to latest statistics published by the Energy Market Regulatory lo (EPDK), the imports totalled around 54.7 billion cubic meters (bcm) in 2022, which is significantly lower from the prior year by almost 6.9%.  39.49 bcm of natural gas imports came through pipelines, while the remaining 15.17 billion was imported in the form of LNG. The year witnessed prolonged energy supply crisis and sky-high prices following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The largest natural gas supplier to Turkiye was Russia, which supplied 21.57 bcm of gas, accounting for almost 40% of the total imports by the country. The other major import sources were Iran (9.4 bcm), Azerbaijan (8.7 bcm), the U.S. (5.6 bcm) and Algeria (5.3 bcm), said the report.

Meantime, the natural gas exports totalled 81.43 million cubic meters during the year, higher by 51.8% year-on-year. The major export destinations were Bulgaria, Greece and Switzerland.

The commencement of pumping of gas into the national grid from the vast Black Sea reserve in April this year will lead to further dip in import volumes.

The natural gas consumption by the country had touched a fresh record of 60 bcm in 2021, considerably higher than 48 bcm in 2020. The EPDK report said that consumption recorded a decline of over 11% year-on-year to 53.5 bcm in 2022.
