BTC Pipeline Reached New Milestone in Crude Oil Transportation
SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The 1,768 kilometres long Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline has achieved an important milestone in crude oil transportation, reported AZERTAC- the official Azerbaijan State News Agency.
During the period from June 2006, when it became operational, and the first quarter of 2024, the pipeline has reportedly carried around 4.3 billion barrels, which were loaded on 5,629 tankers and sent to markets across the world. During Q1 2024 alone, a total of approximately 54 million barrels of exported crude oil through the pipeline were lifted at Ceyhan and loaded on 72 tankers.
The pipeline mainly transports ACG crude oil and Shah Deniz condensate from Azerbaijan, in addition to other volumes of Caspian regional crude oil and condensates.
During the initial quarter of the year, BTC Co. has reported around $33 million in operating expenditure and around $7 million in capital expenditure.
The BTC pipeline, with a projected lifespan of 40 years, extends from the Azeri–Chirag–Gunashli oil field in the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. It connects Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan and Ceyhan, a port on the south-eastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey, via Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. It is the second-longest oil pipeline in the former Soviet Union, after the Druzhba pipeline.
