The proposed oil project will help in boosting Guyana’s overall production capacity to nearly 1.5 million barrels per day (bpd).

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): An environmental impact study (EIA) was submitted by ExxonMobil Guyana, a division of the American corporation, for the development of their seventh oil project in the Stabroek block off the coast of Guyana.

By 2029, Hammerhead, Guyana's seventh deepwater oil project, is anticipated to increase production by 120,000 to 180,000 barrels per day (bpd). The project involves drilling between 14 and 30 development wells and is situated about 160 kilometers northeast of Georgetown's coastline. Guyana's total production capacity will be increased to around 1.5 million barrels per day (bpd) with the help of the proposed oil project.

The Guyana Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) received the company's environmental authorization application in June of last year. After reviewing the application, the EPA requested that the corporation provide an EIA that includes comprehensive details about the project and any potential effects that might arise from its execution.

With the assistance of third-party onshore infrastructural facilities, the majority of the production activities will take place offshore.

ExxonMobil has discovered multiple more crude oil reserves on the eastern half of the Stabroek block following the discovery of oil at the Liza well there in 2015.
