North America accounted for the bulk of new supply, driven by the start-up of Canada’s first LNG export terminal, LNG Canada, in mid-2025, and the ramp-up of Plaquemines LNG in Louisiana. Supported by rising capacity, the United States is on track to become the first country to export more than 100 million tons of LNG in a single year.
Looking ahead, additional LNG volumes are expected between 2026 and 2030 as more U.S. export plants come online and Qatar begins shipments from its major North Field expansion. The U.S. Energy Information Administration estimates LNG exports will average 14.9 billion cubic feet per day in 2025, up 25% from 2024, rising further in 2026.
Despite concerns over a near-term supply glut, leading Middle East exporters such as Qatar and the UAE continue to see strong long-term demand, driven in part by growing power needs from AI-related data centers.
