Uniper Signs 20-Year LNG Supply Agreement with Canada’s Ksi Lisims Project

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): German energy company Uniper has signed a long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement with Canada's Ksi Lisims LNG project, backed by the Nisga’a Nation, Rockies LNG, and Western LNG. The agreement will secure a reliable source of fuel for Europe.

Under the terms of the agreement, 2 million tonnes of LNG per year will be delivered on a free-on-board (FOB) basis for a period of up to 20 years. The first shipments are expected to begin in 2032, once the Canadian export facility becomes operational.

The companies said the deal represents the first major long-term LNG supply arrangement between Canada and Germany, strengthening energy cooperation between the two countries. The agreement was signed in the presence of senior government representatives from both nations.

Uniper stated that the contract will expand its long-term LNG portfolio. At the same time, it will play a key role in improving Europe's energy security. The company noted that access to Canadian LNG will help reduce supply risks and provide additional flexibility to meet future demand.

Earlier, the Ksi Lisims project and Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE) had signed a heads of agreement towards the supply of 1 million tonnes of LNG per year. Together, the deals reinforce Canada's growing role as a long-term supplier of lower-carbon natural gas to European markets.
