Norway Puts Gas Pipelines on High Alert After Nord Stream Blasts

Gassco is reportedly carrying out more inspections than usual, with Havila Subsea offshore supply vessel spending weeks inspecting Norwegian pipelines to Germany and Belgium.

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Norway announced that it has increased inspections at its pipelines in the wake of recent blast on Nord Stream gas pipeline. Incidentally, powerful explosions had caused extensive damage to the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea.

According to Frode Leversund, Chief Executive, Gassco, the country has put its energy sector on high alert, so as to avoid repetition of blast incidents in future. It has partnered with Equinor to ensure intensified inspection of its pipeline network. It must be noted that Gassco is the Norwegian state owned company that operates 7,800 kilometres of natural gas pipes that connect Norway with continental Europe and Britain.

Gassco is reportedly carrying out more inspections than usual, with Havila Subsea offshore supply vessel spending weeks inspecting Norwegian pipelines to Germany and Belgium. Also, the Sleipner gas transport hub as well as a section of the Statpipe and Norpipe links have been under the inspection of Volantis vessel.

Leversund stated that Gassco will continue to maintain close ties with authorities in Germany, France, Belgium and Britain, where it operates receiving terminals. Also, it has boosted cooperation with operators of gas distribution networks in mainland Europe and in Britain.
