Azerbaijan and the European Union also agreed in 2022 to double the Southern Gas Corridor’s capacity, targeting at least 20 billion cubic meters by 2027, reflecting a long-term strategic energy partnership.

SEATTLE (Oil Monster):Azerbaijan has begun supplying natural gas to Germany and Austria through Italy using the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) confirmed. With this development, SOCAR now sells gas to 16 countries globally, underscoring its growing presence in European energy markets.

TAP, a key component of the Southern Gas Corridor, transports gas from Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz field across Turkiye, Greece, Albania, and the Adriatic Sea before reaching Southern Italy. Deliveries to European markets occur via exit points in Greece and Italy, supported by interconnectors.

SOCAR emphasized that its gas strategy, led by President Ilham Aliyev, focuses on expanding marketing activities across Europe and the Middle East to enhance Azerbaijan’s reputation as a reliable energy supplier.

Germany’s state-owned SEFE Securing Energy for Europe GmbH signed a 10-year gas supply agreement with SOCAR in 2025, with annual deliveries gradually reaching 15 terawatt hours, roughly 1.5 billion cubic meters. The partnership aims to boost infrastructure, including gas compressors, and strengthen Europe’s energy security.
