MOL Begins First Commercial Gas Production at Azerbaijan’s ACG Field
SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Hungary-headquartered energy major MOL Group and its joint venture partners have commenced natural gas production at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field in Azerbaijan. This marks the first-ever commercial gas output from the oil-producing field.
The milestone follows the successful drilling and testing of the first production well from the West Chirag platform.

According to industry estimates, the ACG field contains substantial gas resources, potentially reaching 4 trillion cubic feet (approximately 112 billion cubic meters), with upper estimates as high as 6 trillion cubic feet. The existing ACG infrastructure will be used to transport the gas and condensate produced from the well to the Sangachal terminal, where it will be processed and distributed.
The commencement of gas production is expected to further strengthen MOL’s international upstream portfolio. Additionally, it aligns well with the company’s long-term strategy of maintaining daily production above 90,000 barrels of oil equivalent. The company has recently entered into partnerships with national energy companies in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Libya, with the aim of expanding its production.
MOL is currently the third-largest stakeholder in the ACG field after the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan, SOCAR, and BP.
