Uniper and Vermilion Extend Partnership for German Natural Gas Supply
SEATTLE (Oil Monster):Uniper Global Commodities SE and Vermilion Energy Germany GmbH & Co. KG have entered into a two-year agreement for the supply of Vermilion’s entire natural gas production in Germany to Uniper. The contract covers both low- and high-calorific gas from Vermilion’s German upstream operations, enabling Uniper to continue supplying customers with locally produced natural gas.
Vermilion Energy Germany, a subsidiary of Calgary-based Vermilion Energy Inc., has operated in Germany since 2014 and is among the most active onshore producers in Lower Saxony. The company holds the region’s largest exploration acreage portfolio and has a strong track record of bringing new deep natural gas wells into production, supporting Germany’s access to lower-carbon-intensity domestic energy.
In 2025, Vermilion’s production of about 2.4 billion kWh of natural gas is enough to meet the full annual energy demand of roughly 220,000 households, highlighting the strategic role of local production in strengthening security of supply.
Both companies said the extended cooperation reinforces stability in the German energy market at a time of geopolitical uncertainty and energy transition. The agreement also supports diversification of supply, reduces reliance on imports, and contributes to a secure, sustainable, and affordable energy system across Germany.
