Eni Strikes Large Gas Discovery in Indonesian Waters

SEATTLE (Oil Monster):Eni SpA has announced a major natural gas discovery in the Ganal block within the Kutei Basin offshore Indonesia, marking a significant boost to its upstream portfolio.

According to preliminary estimates, the discovery holds around 5 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas and approximately 300 million barrels of condensate. The find, made at the Geliga-1 exploration well, highlights strong resource potential in one of Southeast Asia’s most prolific hydrocarbon regions.

The company noted that ongoing analyses are focused on fast-tracking development, leveraging nearby infrastructure to reduce costs and accelerate time-to-market. The new discovery is located close to the Gula field, which contains an estimated 2 Tcf of gas and 75 million barrels of condensate.

Combined, the Geliga and Gula resources could produce up to 1 billion cubic feet of gas per day and 80,000 barrels of condensate, potentially enabling the creation of a new production hub in the Kutei Basin.

The well, drilled to a total depth of 5,100 meters in waters approximately 2,000 meters deep off East Kalimantan, encountered reservoirs of excellent quality. Eni SpA plans further exploration drilling through 2027.
