Norway Gas Production Eases in August
Natural gas production averaged approximately 342 million cubic metres per day during August.
Total gas sales reached about 10.6 billion cubic metres during the month, roughly 300 million cubic metres below July levels.
Despite the month-over-month decline, August gas production remained approximately 2.5% above the level recorded a year earlier.
The Norwegian Offshore Directorate reported gas production of 333.8 million cubic metres per day in August 2025.

Maintenance and Outages Weigh on Gas Flows
Norwegian gas supply faced a number of operational disruptions during August, including planned and unplanned maintenance at offshore fields and gas-processing facilities.
Outages affected facilities including Kårstø, Gullfaks, Åsgard and Troll during parts of the month, while maintenance activity was expected to increase further heading into September.
The disruptions contributed to tighter Norwegian supply to the European market during a period when gas inventories and winter availability remained closely watched.
Crude Oil Production Climbs to About 1.88 Million Bpd
Norway’s crude oil production rose to approximately 1.88 million barrels per day in August.
That was higher than July output but remained approximately 3.8% below August 2025, when crude production averaged 1.956 million barrels per day.
The increase in crude output contrasted with the decline in natural gas production during the month.
Norway Remains a Key European Energy Supplier
Norway is one of Europe’s most important suppliers of natural gas and a major crude oil producer, making monthly production changes significant for regional energy balances.
Output can vary substantially from month to month because of maintenance schedules, unplanned outages and operational changes across nearly 100 producing fields on the Norwegian continental shelf.
Maintenance-related reductions in Norwegian gas supply can be particularly important during the period when European buyers are rebuilding inventories ahead of the winter heating season.
