‘Anomaly’ in Natural Gas Pipeline Prompts Emergency Repairs in Geneva

SEATTLE (Oil Monster):  Crews are set to begin emergency repair work on a natural gas pipe in Geneva Friday, officials said.

While performing an inspection of the pipeline, which is south of Lewis Road and east of Peck Road in Geneva's west side, Nicor Gas found an "anomaly" that requires an urgent response, according to a news release on the city's website. Crews have reduced pressure in the pipeline and officials said there's no present danger to the community.

Nicor and its contactor Northern Pipeline will start construction this week east of Samantha Circle, the release said. Repair work is expected to be complete in the next one to two weeks, followed by restoration of the parkway and pavement. Some restoration may be temporary until crews can figure out a more permanent solution. Officials said gas customers in the area will still receive normal natural gas service.

Residents who have concerns or questions about the project should call David Surina, Nicor regional manager of community affairs, at 224-239-6486 or via email at DSurina@southernco.com.
