Baker Hughes Collaborates to Boost Production from Algeria’s Natural Gas Field

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Baker Hughes has partnered with SONATRACH in a project aimed at boosting production from Hassi R’Mel natural gas field in Algeria, which is the largest natural gas field in Algeria and one of the largest in the world. It must be noted that Hassi R’Mel is an important source of energy for Europe, especially for Algeria.

As per the contract, Baker Hughes will supply 20 compression trains based on Frame 5 gas turbine and BCL compressor technology. These will be installed across three gas boosting stations within the Hassi R’ Mel natural gas field. The manufacturing of the compressors as well as testing of the trains will be carried out at Baker Hughes’ facilities in Italy-a key importer of energy from Algeria.

The latest technology by the company will stabilize the pressure of natural gas and boost the production at site.

The project is expected to boost Algeria’s domestic energy availability and provide significant boost to the country’s economy. Furthermore, it will contribute significantly to energy security of the entire European region. It must be noted that Algeria had emerged as the second largest supplier of natural gas to Europe last year.

Lorenzo Simonelli, chairman and CEO of Baker Hughes commented that the project will help to drive sustainable energy development in the region.
