SEATTLE (Oil Monster): BP has announced a significant gas and condensate discovery in the Eastern Mediterranean following the successful drilling of the Denise W-1 exploration well in Egypt’s Temsah Concession. The well, located around 70 kilometres offshore in relatively shallow waters, is situated close to existing infrastructure, improving its development potential and cost efficiency.
Initial drilling results confirmed high-quality gas-bearing sandstone reservoirs across a gross interval of approximately 90 metres. The reservoir characteristics are consistent with nearby producing assets such as Temsah Field and Akhen Field, which have been operational for over two decades.
The concession is jointly owned by BP and Eni, each holding a 50% stake, with operations managed through Petrobel in partnership with Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation. The discovery follows a 20-year concession renewal agreement signed in 2025.
Amid rising global gas demand and renewed regional exploration, including activity at Leviathan Gas Field, the find reinforces the Eastern Mediterranean’s growing importance as a strategic energy hub.
