SEATTLE (Oil Monster): As per report, Chevron and the Offshore Alliance- the joint forum of members belonging to the Australian Workers’ Union and the Maritime Union of Australia have reached an agreement to end the strike action.
A recommendation proposed by the Fair Work Commission (FWC) was approved by both the parties, which in turn will put an end to the strikes across the company’s Gorgon and Wheatstone liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in Australia. Both the parties would now work together to draft agreements.
The announcement followed ratification of the proposal by over 350 workers from three gas facilities – Gorgon, Wheatstone Platform, and Wheatstone Downstream during a late-night mass meeting held Thursday night. This will put an end to the industrial action by around 500 unionized workers across the three West Coast facilities since 8th September, 2023.
Brad Gandy, a spokesperson for the Offshore Alliance said that the recommendation by FWC Commissioner Bernie Riordan promises substantial improvements in employment terms and conditions, including hike in wages, job security, locked-in roasters, career growth, and return to a 40% roster. Earlier during the day, the management of Chevron Australia had expressed their acceptance of the recommendation.
