PipeChina has begun operating a new section of the Lianyungang-Yizheng crude oil pipeline in eastern China, adding transport capacity for refineries in Jiangsu Province and along the Yangtze River.
MONTREAL (Oil Monster): A major crude oil pipeline in eastern China has started operations, strengthening the country's energy transportation network and improving the supply of crude oil to refineries across the region. Construction of the pipeline began in October 2024 and was completed in June 2026.
According to PipeChina, the Lianyungang-Yizheng crude oil pipeline began operating on its Lianyungang-Huai'an section on August 13. The project is designed to transport more than 18 million tons of crude oil annually.
The newly commissioned section stretches 143.8 kilometers and has a designed annual capacity of 18.5 million tons. It has a diameter of 813 millimeters and operates at a design pressure of 8.5 MPa. It can transport up to 70,000 tons of crude oil per day toward the Yizheng energy hub in east China.
The new infrastructure will supply refineries in Jiangsu Province and along the Yangtze River.
The Lianyungang-Huai'an section is the first crude oil pipeline with an annual capacity exceeding 10 million tons to become operational since the country commenced its 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030). The project is expected to play an important role in improving China's integrated oil and gas pipeline network.
