Construction Starts on Renewable Natural Gas Project at South Carolina Landfill

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Construction has started on a renewable natural gas (RNG) project at the Twin Chimneys landfill in Honea Path, South Carolina, energy infrastructure investor LS Power said last week.

The project, called the Twin Chimneys Power Producers (TCPP), is being built by Enerdyne Power Systems, a family-owned company part of The Landfill Group. The Landfill Group and LS Power are partnering to jointly develop landfill gas-to-renewable natural gas projects across the US.

The TCPP facility should come online by the fourth quarter in 2022. It will collect landfill gas, converted into RNG and inject it into the local natural gas system run by the Greenwood Commissioners of Public Works.

The facility is expected to initially produce some 1,200 MMBTU of RNG per day and to reach 3,000 MMBTU over time.

This will be Enerdyne’s second renewable energy project in Greenville County after the Enoree Landfill project, which went live in 2008 and uses landfill gas for electricity generation.
