East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project Gets Construction Approval

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Ltd. announced that the nearly 1,500 kilometre-long East African Crude Oil Pipeline project has received construction approval from the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) under the Tanzanian government.

The project required approval from both Tanzania and Uganda, as state oil companies of both these nations were partners to the project along with France’s TotalEnergies and China National Offshore Oil Corporation. The project operations had received a license from Uganda earlier in January this year.

The license will permit EACOP to formally start on the ground construction activities in Tanzania.

The pipeline project runs from oilfields around Lake Albert in Uganda to the port of Tanga in northeast Tanzania. The completion of the pipeline project will generate significant economic opportunities for both the countries. The completion of the project is expected by 2025, according to sources.

Wendy Brown, General Manager, EACOP Ltd noted that the award of the license allows commencement of construction activities upon successful completion of ongoing land access process. Furthermore, he expressed gratitude to the government of Tanzania.
