SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Leading natural gas storage provider Enstor Gas LLC announced that it has received “Notice to Proceed with Construction” from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for its flagship Mississippi Hub Expansion Project. The approval will enable immediate construction, thus helping the country to boost its natural gas storage capabilities.
With this approval, the underground natural gas storage facility will see addition of three new storage caverns, each with a working storage capacity of 10 billion cubic feet (Bcf). The approved plan also comprises of incremental expansions in the hub’s existing caverns.
The expansion plan is expected to add up to 33.5 Bcf of new working gas capacity, along with substantial increase in new injection capacity, which is estimated at around 0.7 MMDth per day. Once completed, the project would lift the total working gas storage capacity of the Mississippi Hub to 56.3 Bcf.
The enhanced capabilities of the hub will provide increased flexibility and stability to the U.S. natural gas supply chain. In addition to energy security, the investment is anticipated to deliver substantial benefits.
Enstor expects that the expanded facility will be fully operational by 2028.
