SEATTLE (Oil Monster): ExxonMobil announced the successful startup of its Beaumont refinery expansion project.
This is the largest refinery expansion in more than a decade. The $2 billion project, which has come online and on budget, will add 250,000 barrels per day of capacity to the refining and petrochemical complex along the U.S. Gulf Coast. The expansion will lead to significant increase in volume, thus boosting its total processing capacity to more than 630,000 barrels per day (bpd).
The construction works of the Beaumont expansion project had commenced in 2019. It involved around 1,700 contractors. The company has hired more than 50 full-time employees to carry out the operations at the expanded facility. The new crude and hydrotreater units have started up as per schedule and within the planned cost, ExxonMobil noted.
Karen McKee, president of ExxonMobil Product Solutions noted that the company has maintained its commitment to the Beaumont expansion even through the lows of the pandemic. The new crude unit will help the company to produce additional transportation fuels to meet the rising demand. The expansion is part of its ongoing commitment to provide the society with reliable, affordable energy products, he added.
