Leaking Gas Pipe in Banten Not Ours: PGN

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Newly established state-owned gas subholding company PGN said on Monday that the leaking undersea gas pipeline in the waters off Bojonegara, Banten, does not belong to it, saying that the leak is closer to that of a private gas producer.

Quoting information from the Banten port master, PGN corporate secretary Rachmat Hutama told The Jakarta Post that the leak was not in one of PGN’s gas pipelines.

“It [the leak] is closer to a privately owned gas pipe that transmits gas from Pabelokan Island to Cilegon,” he said in a text message.

Another source told the Post on Monday afternoon that the private producer was China National Offshore Oil Corporation-Southeast Sumatra Ltd. (CNOOC-SES).

On Monday morning around 9.45 a.m., the port master in Banten received information about a gas pipe leak in the waters of Bojonegara.

Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Oil and Gas Director General Djoko Siswanto said on Monday that the ministry was still investigating the leak to determine the owner of the pipeline.

Rachmat said the leak had not disrupted PGN’s gas distribution in the area.
