Maintenance Work Underway on Natural Gas Pipeline in Chilliwack

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Enbridge is conducting proactive maintenance work on its natural gas pipeline system in Chilliwack at South Sumas Road, between Evans and Lickman which could snarl traffic.

“This work will involve replacing a valve and conducting maintenance work on the pipe under the road,” said Enbridge spokesman Jesse Semko.

The maintenance work started mid-July and should run to August, according to the public notice.

“It is part of maintaining a safe and reliable natural gas pipeline system.”

Local residents have been told that they can expect “increased traffic,” related to the work, which could at times see large, slow-moving vehicles on the road.

Enbridge crews are also replacing 30- and 36-inch pipeline over a one-kilometre stretch of land in south Chilliwack, separate from the maintenance work underway. This work is underway on private agricultural lands between South Sumas and Evans Road and should also be complete in August.

A traffic management plan has been drafted and locals may see related signage, pilot trucks and other methods employed to minimize disruptions.
