NextEra Energy to Build Renewable Natural Gas Plant in Alabama

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): NextEra Energy Resources, LLC announced that it has entered into an agreement with Coffee County, Alabama to build its first renewable natural gas (RNG) production facility. The facility will be located at a landfill owned and operated by Coffee County.

According to company press release, it will work with Coffee County to upgrade the existing landfill gas collection system to build the new facility. It will have capacity to capture and convert 1,100 standard cubic feet per minute of landfill methane gas per year to renewable natural gas. The project is expected to create nearly 60 construction jobs.

The construction of the project is expected to begin in Q2 2023, subject to receipt of a permit from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. It will become operational in early-2024. NextEra Energy Marketing, LLC- a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC will own the project, whereas the Coffee County will operate it.

Rebecca Kujawa, president and chief executive officer of NextEra Energy Resources noted that the company is pleased to be working with Coffee County on this innovative project. Meantime, Rod Morgan, Coffee County Administrator said that the agreement offers a tremendous economic and environmental opportunity for the state of Alabama.
