SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) released natural gas production figures for the initial six-month period of the current year. The country produced nearly 1.37 trillion standard cubic feet of natural gas between January and June 2025.
According to the report, the gas production averaged 229 billion scf per month, with January recording the highest output of 236.3 billion scf, while February registering the lowest at 199.7 billion scf. Out of the total volume, 1.26 trillion scf of natural gas or 91.8% of the total production was utilised.
NUPRC data indicates that companies burnt 101.4 billion scf during the six months, accounting for 7.4% of total production. The highest flaring of 18.7 billion scf was recorded in January, while February reported the lowest level of 15.9 billion scf.
Although the country managed to report sustained levels of production, industry experts urged the government authorities to take necessary actions to ensure proper utilisation of the country’s vast natural gas resources, which are still untapped. As per estimates, the country is said to have more than 200 trillion cubic feet of gas under the soil.
NUPRC noted that the data for April, May and June are only provisional and are subject to reconciliation.
