Oman to Invite Bids to Build Gas Pipeline

SEATTLE (Oil Monster):  Oman is planning to invite bids for the construction of a subsea natural gas pipeline between Sohar and its neighbor Iran next month, said a report citing the sultanate’s oil minister.

Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhi also told Thomson Reuters Projects that work related to seabed surveys, design of the pipeline and its accessories and compressor stations have been completed, Trade Arabia reported. The Iranian media last week reported that Tehran was expected to reach a final agreement with its southern neighbor on the offshore pipeline project.

The project will supply Iranian gas to the littoral state by the end of June, reported IRNA citing Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh.  “The deal will be finalized in two stages: The first of which is planned to be concluded by the end of May and the second part is going to be signed by the end of June,” Zanganeh was quoted as saying bay IRNA.

Zanganeh visited the sultanate on Thursday to pursue talks with his Omani counterpart Rumhi in Muscat.

The Omani oil minister said eight consortiums from across the globe have expressed interest in implementing the project.
