Pennsylvania Natural Gas Output Surged 5% in Q3 2017

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The quarterly production data released by the state agency Independent Fiscal Office (IFO) suggests 5% jump in natural gas production by Pennsylvania during the third quarter of 2017. The quarterly report also indicates 4% year-on-year rise in year-to-date output during the first three quarters of 2017.

The natural gas production in Pennsylvania during Q3 2017 totaled 1,326 Billion cubic feet (Bcf), which compares to 1,200 Bcf during the corresponding period in 2016. The total number of producing wells during the quarter increased by over 9% to 8,073. The production during Jan-Sep ’17 totaled 3,963 Bcf, 3.6% higher over the similar nine-month period last year. The estimate for total yearly production in 2017 stands at 5,300 Bcf, which itself would be a new record. It must be noted that Pennsylvania’s natural gas production volume had totaled 5.082 trillion cubic feet in 2016.

According to IFO report, Susquehanna County was the leading producer in terms of year-to-date production. The production surged higher by 7% to total 966.1 Bcf. In second place was Washington County with 679.2 Bcf. The other leading producers were Bradford (538.3 Bcf) and Greene (495.0 Bcf). These four counties together accounted for nearly two-thirds of the statewide production.

Greene and Lycoming were the only two counties to report production decline during Jan-Sep ’17, dropping by 6.2% and 16.7% respectively. Sullivan reported biggest jump in production volume. The county saw 34.5% jump in production volumes.

The IFO report is prepared based on the monthly production data submitted to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) by natural gas extractors that operate in the state.
