Russian Oil and Gas Export Revenues Slumped in May

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The Russian export revenues from sales of fossil fuels in the month of May 2025 slumped to the lowest level since the start of the war against Ukraine, said latest monthly report published by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA).

The country’s earnings from exports of oil, gas, oil products and coal recorded significant decline by 19% over the same month a year before. When compared with the early months of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the revenues have almost halved.

The revenues from seaborne crude oil exports totalled €176 million per day in May this year, which is significantly down by 22% year-on-year and by 8% from the prior month. The dip in average price of Russia’s benchmark oil led to notable decline in total earnings, despite 4% jump in physical volume of shipments.

The additional revenues from pipeline oil exports totalled €59 million per day, down by 8%. The gas exports generated €101 million per day in May. Meanwhile, the revenues from oil product sales stood at €101 million per day- more or less unchanged from April levels. On the other hand, revenue from coal exports surged significantly by 18% year-on-year to reach €74 million per day.

The leading export destinations of Russian energy during the previous month were China, India and Turkiye.
